As long as I can remember I’ve always been an avid reader. For the last few years I’ve been steering away from fiction and biographies and my genres of choice are self-improvement and business books. One of my favourite biz books, as you can tell from the title of this post, is Start with Why by Simon Sinek. With the launch of this business, this website and this blog, I thought it would be fitting to share the story of WHY Vitality PR & Communications came to be.
Entrepreneurship is growing in leaps and bounds. It seems like a lot of my generation wants out of cubicle nation and to pursue passion projects while still paying the bills. And rightly so! But there was a disconnect: small businesses are on the rise and like every other organization, marketing & PR are imperative vehicles to build brand awareness, grow a tribe and encourage people to hop on the healthy bandwagon. Here’s where the disconnect lies: most PR and marketing agencies in Toronto won’t even talk to you without a minimum $5,000 monthly retainer for 12 months. (And trust me, I’m talking on the low side.) So for a new entrepreneur/small business, how does the idea of committing to spending $60,000 in 12 months sound? Like a good investment? Sure – it absolutely has the potential to pay off. Is it feasible or realistic though? Not so much.
So here’s my why: through Vitality PR, I want to help entrepreneurs and small businesses get the word out about the great things they’re doing without driving them broke. Blunt, but honest. Selfishly, I want to work with people who are just as passionate as I am about making the world a healthier place and encouraging people to live better lives through health, fitness and wellness. These services shouldn’t be reserved for a lucky few who may have killer grants and marketing budgets, but even the ‘little guy’ who has a big role to play in the health of global consumers. I get to take my professional skills of getting people in front of large audiences and their target clients and blend it with my personal passion for living an active life and working with people who want to inspire health.
